Bruckner was born in Hollywood California to a Hungarian father as well as a Russian mother. They later divorced. Her paternal grandfather is German. In Hungary her parents initially got together, and they then moved to the United States in 1984 as part of an asylum settlement in Italy. She has two sisters and a brother.
